We have been learning about Ruby bridges, a young black girl who was chosen to go to a white school in America in the 1950s. The other white children where taken out of school by their parents and Ruby walked to school with armed police through the crowds of shouting people. Eventually the white children started coming back to school and now schools are happily mixed.
Ask your child to tell you about what happened and how Ruby reacted.
We wrote a poem and performed it to the whole school:
Ruby Bridges
Don't be scared
Ruby Bridges
I will hold your hand
Ruby Bridges
She was kind
Ruby Bridges
You helped us
Ruby Bridges
Thank you for our school
